barbaresco vineyards

CANOVA, NEIVE Among the towns in Langhe, Neive stands out for its particular vocation to the cultivation of Nebbiolo grapes for the production of Barbaresco. Since the 1960s, Scarpa has been selecting grapes for its wines from here. This led to the acquisition, in 2018, of some vineyards in the Canova cru, located right next to where the eastern border of the denomination meets the first hills of Monferrato. Canova stretches over a panoramic ridge that, from Bricco di Neive, descends to the plain, right across from where the town begins.

The soil – rich in clay and limestone and revealing some silt and sand – is the ideal place to cultivate Nebbiolo. The resulting Barbaresco unveils remarkable tannic grit, broad and fragrant aromas as well as a solid structure, ready for long aging.
The lower part of the vineyard, which is less exposed and enjoys cooler temperatures is dedicated to Chardonnay grapes that acquire particularly intense aromas.
