Above: The new tasting room and event space was opened last fall at Scarpa. Today, it remains empty.

Here at the Scarpa winery in Nizza Monferrato in Asti province (Piedmont), we’ve been under lockdown since the Italian government declared the entire country a red zone last week. That means that all of our employees are at home in isolation until the restrictions are removed.

Even before the nationwide lockdown was put into place, we were already using social distancing and best practices for our workers and partners. If someone at the winery called in saying that they had a fever or weren’t feeling well, we told them to stay at home. And here in Italy we already have ample paid leave and sick time. So none of our team has gone without pay during these trying times and everyone is still on salary.

Our number one priority is the health and safety of our employees, our partners, and our guests and customers. And as we move forward through the current health crisis, we will continue to ensure that all of our employees have the resources they need as the ongoing crisis continues.

Despite the mood of these bleak times, we are confident that we will get through this — together.

In that spirit, we have begun working remotely using the internet and social media as our means of communication.

Next week plan to launch our first social media campaign of the spring. Please stay tuned and we’re looking forward to interacting with you online!

In the meantime, please remember that the only way to beat the virus is by isolating and practicing health and safety protocols.

Stay safe and we will see you early next week… Stay tuned!
