Today, we’re sending a much deserved shout-out to our good friend Michael Zaccaria in Melbourne who works with our wines in Australia.

Casa Scarpa is their delicious entry Barbera D’Asti that drinks like anything but. It’s grown at Poderi Bricchi, Scarpa’s estate vineyard in Castel Rocchero.

It’s fermented and aged in stainless steel for freshness with several years of ageing in bottle before release. The 2016 shows the bright fruit typical of Barbera d’Asti with an additional layer of savoury and secondary notes that come from ageing in bottle. It’s complex and juicy with elegance that only the great producers in Asti can achieve. Superb drinking.

Since its beginnings in 1854 Scarpa has been a winery guided by the philosophy of quality over quantity and long ageing of its wines. The Bric Du nota 2016 is a traditional, ultra-elegant Nebbiolo d’Alba from the sandy soils of Roero. Ageing in bottle for a minimum of two years is more akin to a Barolo allowing it to show its true class with lifted aromatics, soft delicate tannins and remarkable length. Pure Nebbiolo joy.
