«One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters», according to English poet George Herbert of Cherbury.
March 19 is Father’s Day, simultaneously celebrated with the feast of St. Joseph, patron saint of fathers. On this special day, we commemorate the gentle strength of our first and most important teachers in life.
At Scarpa, we would also like to remember our «fathers». Antonio Scarpa, our founder, whose visionary and courageous work has given life to one of the wineries that embody the true Piedmontese tradition. Mario Pesce, his material and spiritual successor, who launched Scarpa into the international scene. And Carlo Castino, Scarpa’s winemaker who celebrates his 81st birthday this year and the man behind the enhancement of the winery’s most important estate, Poderi Bricchi.
To celebrate Father’s Day, we would like to recommend something special, one that is particularly close to our hearts: our Vermouth di Torino line, including the Rosso, Bianco and Extra Dry versions. Our Vermouths are made according to the original recipe of our founder, Antonio Scarpa, who created the formula in the 1920s and was later perfected by Mario Pesce. To honor the Piedmontese tradition of liquor-making, we use local botanicals (mostly coming from the foothills of Pancalieri) and our Moscato d’Asti DOCG as the base wine (for at least 20%). Our Vermouth Extra Dry is not filtered, for an even more authentic experience. Scarpa Vermouths are a dive into the flavors of the Italian Art Nouveau period, when Turin established the rules of good taste and created the myth of Italian aperitif.
